The week began with the P & H Mixed ‘B’ team playing the club’s first home match of the season. Playing in the match was Dave Russ, Sue Tolliday, Jack Briggs, and Kitty Hall.
The West Norfolk mixed team took another trip to Kings Lynn, this time to play KES ‘A’. It was another perfect result for the team comprising of James Newton, Rachel Collins, Rhys Thomas, and Margaret Pendall. After beating KES ‘B’ 8-0 the week before, they achieved the same score line this time round as well.
Rounding off the week was the P & H Mixed ‘A’ team who managed to defeat Longthorpe ‘C’ with a convincing 6-2 victory. The Wisbech team was made up of Daniel Bambridge, Lisa Kennedy, Stuart Sage and Sheila Hennessey.

This weekend sees the start of the 2009 season for the Wisbech Tennis Club. In order to kick the season off with a bang there are two tournaments arranged, catering for players of all standards and age groups.
On Saturday there is a fun tournament for the juniors which is to take place on the grass courts and will commence at 11am. It is being organised by Lisa Kennedy, our club coach so she will be there if you would like any coaching advice or details of coaching for the coming season.
Sunday is the main tournament which is in memory of John Bown who sadly passed away last year. He was one of the club’s biggest characters over the years and was always encouraging new people to come and play at the club. Because of his endless contributions to the club, it was felt that a memorial tournament in his honour would be a nice way to remember him. Registration is at 11am so feel free to just turn up on the morning and put your name down. It is aimed at the more social aspect of tennis but there will be a trophy for the winning male and female players. This is to be played on the Astroturf courts which have kindly been made available to us by the Grammar School. |
