This past week saw only two teams in action, both on Wednesday night. The West Norfolk Mixed team continued their dominant run of form with another 8-0, this time against West Norfolk ‘C’. James Newton and Rachel Collins were very impressive – only dropping two games in four sets. Rhys Thomas and Lisa Kennedy also played a very good match winning all four of theirs as well.

The Peterborough and Hunts Men’s team got their season underway at home to Buckden ‘D’. After a shaky start Dan Bambridge and Stuart Sage came back from 5-1 down in the first set to win on a tie break but were unlucky to lose the second set which was also on a tie break. They were then able to take both sets against the second pair 6-3 6-1. Matt Goodwin and Ady Ogden also played well, taking one set against each pair helping the team to a 5-3 win.

This week there were three teams in action covering three different divisions. First up was the West Norfolk Ladies who played away to West Norfolk ‘C’ where the team of Rachel Collins, Margaret Pendall, Kitty Hall, and Claire Brown managed to win 5-3.

Next up was the West Norfolk Mixed team who played host to KES ‘A’ where they defeated them 8-0 which was the same score line as when they played them away. The victorious team consisted of James Newton, Lisa Kennedy, Rhys Thomas, and Margaret Pendall.

Unfortunately, due to the rain Friday evening the Peterborough and Hunts Ladies ‘A’ team had their match called off.

Lastly, in the P&H league, the Ladies ‘B’ team were unlucky to only get one set against Stamford.  It was a very hard match which was played in the rain for the majority of the match, and Sue Pitcher played particularly well in her first match. The team lost out 1-7 and playing for Wisbech was Sue Beel, Sue Pitcher, Kitty Hall, and Jane Goodley.

With the start of July the Men’s and Ladies’ divisions in the Peterborough and Hunts league have gotten underway. To start the week the Ladies ‘B’ team played away to Needingworth ‘B’ and were unfortunate not to pick up a draw, losing 3-5. In the ‘B’ team were Sue Beel, Jane Page, Kitty Hall, and Jane Goodley.

Wednesday night the other P&H team were in action at home to Buckden ‘D’. The ‘A’ consisted of Margaret Mee, Claire Brown, Sheila Hennessey and Pauline Maris. Sheila Hennessey and Pauline Maris were the stars of the match. Against the second pair they drew scoring 5-7 and 6-4 and won both sets against the first pair 6-4 and 7-5. Claire Brown and Margaret Mee lost against the second pair 2-6 and 1-6 and drew against the first pair 4-6 and 6-4. The set they won was very long, with virtually all the games of both sides going to several deuces. The final result was a 4-4 draw on a very nice evening without any rain although the clouds were very threatening at times.

Unfortunately the Men’s team wasn’t able to play their first fixture as rain forced the match to be cancelled, to be played at a later date.

Lastly, Dan Bambridge and James Newton took part in the Cambs Open Men’s Doubles where they came up against some strong opposition. Once they were able to get used to the power and accuracy both players were able to achieve, it was a much closer game. Unfortunately though they were beaten 6-1 6-3 but were very positive about the experience.
